The City of Toronto has put a major emphasis on re-building the City’s waterfront into something more vibrant and sustainable. WaterfronToronto’s intention is to take old, industrial land and turn into something that the entire City can enjoy, whilst at the same time stimulate local economies and create jobs. From an investment perspective, what better ingredients?

Here is a quick overview of the plan’s:

  • -Boundaries: Parliament Street to the Don River, King Street to the Rail Corridor.
  • -Size: 32-Hectares (80-Acres).
  • -Features: 6,000 new residential units, 9.3-Hectares (23-Acres) of Parks and Public Space.

The area is some 32-hectare of brownfield development land that sits between Parliament Street and the Don River, and from King Street to the rail corridor. The City wants to create a beautiful, vibrant, and sustainable riverside community with plans in-place for some 6000 new residential units, employment opportunities, commercial uses, and at-least 1 Elementary School and 2 child-care centres. 9-Hectares have also been set aside to allow for parks and other public space (WaterfronToronto).

The West Don Land’s is definitely not a new name. The area has been under the media spotlight for quite some time due to the upcoming 2015 Pan American Games and the Athlete’s Village. The area has also seen some exceptional real estate developments spring-up with the extremely popular River City, and the upcoming and eagerly anticipated River City 2.

Not much information is currently available for River City 2 but we do know that Urban Capital & RedQuartz are working closely with WaterfronToronto to ensure River City 2 is as dynamic as River City 1.
