King & John Square Design Competition Ends Today!
We at TalkCondo LOVE all the new work being done in the Entertainment District, especially the work along John Street. Since the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) made the Entertainment District their new home, there has been lots of talk about how the area will evolve. We have already seen high end hotels added to the district (Ritz Carlton, Hotel Le Germain, the upcoming Bisha), and there is hope for high end retail such as the designer stores we are used to seeing along Bloor Street that will completely transform this neighborhood of Toronto.
Festival Tower, home of TIFF will become one of the most important buildings in the District, bringing the glitz, the glamour, the Red Carpet and the exhibits that the movie business attracts.
The City of Toronto are pumping millions of dollars as they aim to make John Street the “Cultural Spine of Toronto” with huge plans for redevelopment of the path leading directly to the Rogers Center. A competition for the redesigning of the King/John Square located North of Metro Hall (and kitty-cornered from Festival Tower) was run by the Entertainment District in an effort to modernize and freshen up the area. This redesign will have a positive impact on a number of condo development in the immediate vicinity such as Bisha, the Mercer and Theatre Park.
“Staircase to nowhere” remeniscent of Times Square
5 finalists were chosen – among them: a Staircase reminicsent of Times Square and “Oracle Square” with tentacle like poles sticking from the ground.
Voting ends today at 3pm, so be sure to view all of the submissions and get your votes in by clicking here.
