Ontario Place Facelift to Include New Condominiums

Ontario Place is set to undergo a huge facelift and revitalization in the next 5 years which will see brand new commercial space, retail, a hotel and condominium residences.

The Province approved a plan that is to be completed by 2017, with the goal to have some areas completed by 2015 to host Beach Volleyball at the Pan Am games.

The first phase of the plan involves environmental studies to determine what “what’s in there, what’s beneath Ontario Place, what’s in the water” and is expected to be completed by 2013.

Specific details are not available, but developers will be invited to make proposals for the revitalization.

Recent revitalization projects such as Regent Park, Canary District and the West Don Lands have enjoyed enormous success. Ontario Place is an iconic site in Toronto and it will be interesting to see how the province creates a “neighborhood” in what could be one of Toronto’s premier waterfront locations.
