Proposal to extend PATH Network Underway

It’s no secret that Canadian winters can be rather harsh, and as a result the Toronto underground PATH network has become increasingly important for residents to make their way around the City.  The current PATH system is the largest underground shopping complex in the world and stretches from the Rogers Centre to the Eaton Centre.

Over the past few years, condominiums with a direct connection to the PATH network have become hot commodity.  The lure of getting from your condominium to many of the Cities landmarks is very attractive.  Recently, L Tower, Backstage, Aura, ICE 1 & ICE 2, Maple Leaf Square have all enjoyed direct PATH access.

The new master plan calls for the PATH extension by highlighting “high priority”, “medium priority” and “long term opportunity” areas of expansion.

HIGH PRIORITY AREAS:

The proposal highlights the new areas south of Union as high priority expansion areas.  10 Years ago this was an area full of parking lots, however, this area will be one of the most populated in the entire city, housing condominiums such as Maple Leaf Square, ICE, 10 York and two new towers by Menkes.

High priority location for Toronto PATH extension.  A lot has changed in 10 years…. This area will be adding at least 5 more mega towers in the next 5 years (ICE 1 & 2, 10 York, Two Menkes Towers)

OTHER AREAS:

The report also highlights a number of medium priority and long term areas that have the PATH extending further East and West.  The plan to extend to the Entertainment District to West (as far as Blue Jays Way/Peter Street) and the new communities to the East (as far as Jarvis) are also being looked at.

The PATH is becoming an increasingly important piece of the puzzle, and for investment purposes those condominiums with a direct access can not be overlooked.
