Toronto is again one of the most liveable cities in the world
For many decades, the city of Toronto has been evolving into the world-class city we know today. Toronto offers a great place to work, many hot new condo developments, beautiful parks and waterfronts, and everything else that makes a city so great to live in.
Recently, the Economist Intelligence unit released their 2016 update of their annual liveability index, ranking the most liveable cities in the world. In it, Toronto was ranked 4th just behind Melbourne, Vienna and Vancouver.
The rankings take into account of such things as safety, healthcare, culture and environment, infrastructure, education, and more. After each factor was taken into consideration, the city of Toronto combined for a high score of 97.2 out of 100.
Toronto is a perennial contender in these rankings as it holds onto its 4th spot earned in 2015 and several years previous. In the Safe cities index, by the Economist, Toronto was awarded the title of the best place to live in the world.
Other accolades:
- Toronto has one of the world’s top 10 influential financial centres in 2016.
- Metropolis’s ranked Toronto as the most livable city in the world in 2015
- According to The Economist Intelligence Unit and Citi Foundation, Toronto has the best economy for young people.
- Toronto has been ranked as one of the safest cities to live in.
The city keeps an archive of other high rankings on the world stage on their website.
Toronto is still improving
Earning nearly top marks in most sections of the index, the one that didn’t score as high for Toronto was infrastructure at 89.3. While that score is still relatively high on the world stage, it is something the city is still striving to improve on.
With the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) set to increase by over 2.8 million people by 2041, there is a bigger impetus than ever to improve issues such as traffic congestion.Citizens currently rely on crowded and decade old streetcars and subway cars to get to work.
However, those older streetcars have been slowly replaced by new light rail transit vehicles and roomier subway cars in recent years. Additionally, the city has been improving on the number of bike lanes it is able to offer. Massive funding, projects, and upgrades to transit at Union Station, the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, and other recent proposals to improve the TTC will greatly improve the public transit infrastructure in coming years.
The Rising Value of Condos in Toronto
A world class city such as Toronto has the ability to attract world class condo developments. Added with a high livability score and a population that continues to rise, the demand for condominiums is consistently rising. Thus, it has never been a better time to invest in a Toronto condo unit.
